Looking At Recent Production Of Top QMJHL Forwards Relative To Couturier

Well I'd be lying if I'd say that I'm not already looking forward to the WJC's and ultimately the draft. Some people feel that it might not be wise to draft Couturier 1st overall due to the fact that the Q is seen as an inferior league to the OHL and WHL. Let's see how Couturier stacks up to other recent notable Q alumni.

'05 Sidney Crosby
Pre-Draft Season 59gp. 54-81-135
Draft Season 62gp. 66-102-168

'06 Derick Brassard
Pre-Draft Season 69gp. 25-51-76
Draft Season 58gp. 44-72-116

'06 Claude Giroux
Draft Season 69gp. 39-64-103

'07 Jakub Voracek
Draft Season 59gp. 23-63-86

'07 David Perron
Draft Season 70gp. 39-44-83

'09 Jordan Caron
Pre-Draft Season 46gp. 20-23-43
Draft Season 56gp. 36-31-67

'11 Sean Couturier
Pre-Draft Season 68gp. 41-55-96
Draft Season 27gp. 15-22-37
Draft Season Projected To 68gp. 38-55-93

Obviously there hasn't been a lot to get excited about from the Q in recent years as this list clearly shows, however Couturier is the first Q forward since Crosby to get serious consideration for the top pick in their respective draft years. Couturier would do himself a favor by bumping up his offensive production as at this point he is behind all but Caron and Perron in terms of points/game in their respective draft seasons. Ideally Couturier and Nugent-Hopkins make team Canada and teams can get a better gauge of their abilities against the same opposition.
