The second of three Oilers second round picks in 2010, Martin Marincin is a tall but lanky defenseman that can skate well and he has a solid offensive upside. Marincin has some serious filling out to do before he's ready for the NHL level, however he looks to be one of the Oilers top 2-3 defense prospects.
Marincin is a package of raw skills and size that could end up being a player that far outperforms his draft ranking. The Oilers have obviously keyed in on big but mobile defensemen in the last couple of drafts and you have to think that one or two of them will exceed expectations. Will Marincin be that player? The Oilers lack a true #1 defenseman and top pairing defensemen, getting either from the second round would be a significant step forward in the Oilers rebuild.
Even if he rounds out to be a second pairing guy that contributes well on the PP that would be a significant addition to a team that lacks legit point options.
