A First For the Falcons in Their Time as the Oilers AHL Affiliate

Devan Dubnyk didn't want to be the forgotten man after Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers has shown the Oilers that they may be able to develop their own goaltending prospects for the first time in a long time. Dubnyk stopped all FORTY SIX shots against the Worcester Sharks to lead the Falcons to a 2-0 win that was sealed by a Gilbert Brule empty net goal. It took the new look Falcons 92 regular season games before they got a shutout by a goaltender under Edmonton's watch.

Perhaps this is what Dubnyk needed, some inspiration that Deslauriers is paving the way, and the fact that he can flat out dominate games when he's on his game. The trio of Gilbert Brule, Ryan Potulny, and Rob Schremp had a grand total of 3 shots and no points (prior to Brule's empty net goal) between them tonight as the Falcons had a power failure offensively with all of 16 shots on net and only 15 on Worcester's netminder.

The Falcons need to get their lines in order because this weekened they will play the dreaded 3 games in 3 nights AHL weekend schedule. An influx of skill wouldn't hurt as Bryan Lerg and Cody Wild were once again a healthy scratch.

Have to agree with you BB. Would be nice to see Lerg get some time again.

Am very concerned by how bad they were outshot though. Could it have been the 3 games in 4 days or is it something else more troubling?

I'm not sure OD, unfortunately I was unable to watch the game yesterday. The Falcons last year had a really bad habit of getting out shot by a wide margin. Hopefully that habit isn't returning. Lerg and Goulet have both been sent down while Colin McDonald remains on the top line. Go figure. Here's what I would do...

Lerg-Brule-Reddox
