For Edmonton Oilers callups this year. First Rob Schremp, now Ryan Potulny gets cast away after making solid contributions in limited stays with the club. Meanwhile Liam Reddox (23gp. 3-2-5 -3) and Gilbert Brule (10gp. 2-1-3 -2) remain with the big club. Of these 4 players Potulny and Schremp both had the largest impacts in their first 4 games, unfortunately that doesn't seem to matter to the Oilers coach or GM.
What kind of a message does this send? Come up, play well, and it doesn't matter. What ever happened to if a guy comes up and plays well you make room for him? Obviously that doesn't seem to be the case in Oilerville.
Meanwhile Gilbert Brule has just 3 more NHL games left before the Oilers have to send him down or risk losing him on waivers if he's sent down after playing his 4th game or more.
The decision on Brule could become complicated when Fernando Pisani returns and if the Oilers decide to keep the coaches newest version of smallish, gritty, but limited offensively skilled forwards, Liam Reddox. Following in the "proud" tradition of Toby Petersen and Patrick Thoresen, Liam Reddox has obviously gotten a push by his former Springfield coach and current Oilers assistant coach Kelly Buchberger.
With both Kelly Buchberger and Craig MacTavish firmly in Reddox's corner, there could be a clash of coaches and GM when the team gets healthy again.

Therefore, Potulny is not required to pass though waivers to be sent down. Though I will agree that stat line is eeriely similar to Schremp's
Possibly a shot at letting Potulny play in the AHL all-star game?
Let's be honest Jonathan, most players could care 2 shits about the AHL allstar game if it means that they are in the NHL. The NHL is always the goal for these guys. Of course it's a great honor, but they'd rather be in the big show.
