This is Why I Respect David Staples

While he didn't go off the deep end like many fans (myself included) he is now on board with the MacT needs to go crowd. He may not believe that it will make much of a difference, but unlike many of his media counterparts he put his neck on the chopping block here. It's nice to see anyone in the sports media question Mactavish's effectiveness as coach. Cheers David, this is why I hold you in a much higher regard than the yessir's that I spoke of in a blog post of mine recently. Cheers, and welcome aboard the can MacT train, my name is Bryan, I'm the engineer on this bad boy :)

Bryan. Kinds words, but I just want to make it clear that in my own eyes, in no way am I any kind of hero here and I am uncomfortable being portrayed that way.

I don't have to interview MacT tomorrow, for instance, like Robin Brownlee or Dan Barnes does.

No one is yelling at me (yet) for anything I write (except other bloggers and posters, of course).

Now, I do believe I could live with myself if I did have to call up MacT down the road, as might well happen. I could explain my position and I think of that eventuality when I do write about him.

But what I write doesn't have that direct impact on me as it does on the beat writers, who are under the gun in ways that others don't understand. I'm just another spook on the Internet, just one more opinion, take it for what it's worth.

No worries, and thanks for chiming in. You made your point in a professional manner. I would see no issue with the team on your behalf. Although I have no idea how they do things in the Oilers PR department. Keep up the good work, Bryan

Exactly why yours and Staples blogs are the only I read.

Staples is the best hockey writer in Edmonton and the Journal should be allocating the position to him if he was interested.

His work in other reporting in Edmonton is exceptional as well.
