BBO's Top 20 Oilers Prospects, #10 Lw Slava Trukhno

The 21 year old Trukhno is currently a top 6 forward on the forward deep Springfield Falcons. After a slow start to his AHL rookie season last year, Trukhno really picked up his play late in the season where he became one of Springfield's best offensive forwards.

Starting this season on a line with Tyler Spurgeon and Gilbert Brule, Trukhno had 3 assists in his first 2 games for the Falcons. With that being said, he didn't play near his best until his 5th game of the season where he scored his first goal of the year. Trukhno now has 1 goal and a team leading 4 assists in 5 games. Pretty solid results for someone mostly playing below the lofty standards that he set with his breakout performance late last season.

Unlike last season, Trukhno has not been playing on the point on the power play. With more than enough capable defensemen to fill the role this season, expect Trukhno to play in front to the net on the top PP unit or on the half boards on the second unit with the recent arrival of Rob Schremp. That will certainly cut into his PP production as long as players like Schremp and Brule are in Springfield, however it will allow him to play more even strength minutes to do damage there.

Trukhno is a solid playmaking winger with a surprisingly good shot. He also brings grit to the game and does a solid job of digging around in the corners. A potential comparison for Trukhno would be Dan Cleary. Very good playmakers, slightly below average size, not the best of skaters, but willing to get their nose dirty in the corners.
