Falcons Weekly Update, Week 1

After 2 games of play, the Falcons sit in 3rd place in the Atlantic Division with a 1-0-1-0 record.

Falcons standouts this week included...

Gilbert Brule 2-1-3
Slava Trukhno 0-3-3
Ryan Potulny 2-0-2
Theo Peckham 2-0-2
Taylor Chorney 0-2-2
Tyler Spurgeon 0-2-2
Cody Wild 1-0-1 in 1gp.

Falcons MIA included...

Ryan O'Marra 0-0-0 0shots and an even in 2gp.
Bryan Lerg 0-0-0 0shots and even in 1gp.

To be fair to both players, their ice time was very limited and they weren't exactly blessed with the best of linemates.

O'Marra played a good positional brand of hockey, but I really have to wonder if it wouldn't be better for him to tear up the ECHL than to simply get 4th line minutes on an AHL roster.

Then we have Lerg, the same player that scored 3 goals in 2 preseason games and had a solid rookie camp, Lerg was a healthy scratch on Sunday and may as well have been on Saturday with his limited time on ice.

It may just be that this team is so incredibly deep. It could very well be, and the return of Rob Schremp certainly won't help their cause. It will be interesting to see how these 2 players icetimes will be rationed going forward. Starting Friday, the Falcons play 3 games in 3 nights, perhaps in 1 of those games each player can get significant icetime to show what they can do.

However on a team that employs last seasons Grand Rapids Griffins leading scorer Carl Corazzini on the 3rd line to start the year, it won't be easy.
