Falcons Weekly Review, Week 7

What a difference a week can make! This time last week the Falcons were playing like kitty litter lumps, and this week they were great (minus the PK)! The Falcons won a spirited affair with the Norfolk Admirals on Friday 7-6. The game was overshadowed by a pre game fight involving Theo Peckham and a fight involving Guillaume Lefebvre off the opening puck drop.

The game saw the combination of Bryan Lerg, Ryan Potulny, and Rob Schremp combine for 1-5-6 and a +6. That would be the beginning of the carnage that these 3 would wreak on their opponents this weekend.

As much of a positive as that line was, the Falcons gave up FIVE PP goals, that would also be a trend for the weekend. Tyler Spurgeon scored his first goal of the season and added an assist to a solid night of work.

Saturday saw the Falcons beat the then 2nd place Providence Bruins soundly by a score of 5-1. Rob Schremp scored his first goal of the season and added 2 helpers, and Ryan Potulny had his 2nd 3 point game in as many nights, and the SPL line accumulated 3-5-8 and a +6 to continue their offensive dominance on the weekend.

The win temporarily lifted the Falcons to the 2nd spot in the AHL's Atlantic Division. Gilbert Brule also had his 2nd goal in as many nights in the big win. The SPL line swept the 3 star selections with Schremp, Potulny, and Lerg taking the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stars respectively.

Sunday wasn't quite as favorable as the prior two nights were for the Falcons. For the first time this season a goaltender not named Devan Dubnyk started in net as Glenn Fisher got his first career AHL start. It ended Dubnyk's streak of 16 consecutive starts.

The Falcons were back to their old tricks by allowing 3 PP goals in only 5 opportunities to the Lowell Devils. The Falcons fell 4-1 and ended the weekend on a negative note after so much positive come off of their week of practice and 2 prior games. The SPL line figured into the games only goal with Potulny scoring from Schremp and Lerg.
