BBO's Top 20 Oilers Prospects, #17 C Tyler Spurgeon

Tyler Spurgeon finds himself playing out the final year of his entry level contract this season. One would have to ask, has he done enough to earn another contract? And if so, will it be an NHL 2 way contract, or an AHL contract?

A hard worker, Spurgeon is gritty, a tireless worker, and he shows flashes of skill from time to time. Spurgeon at the time of this post has appeared in 30 games and has a stats line of 2-9-11 +1 with 23 pim. Spurgeon could become a 4th line NHLer one day, but with Liam Reddox ahead of him on the depth chart, Tim Sestito already signed to an NHL contract, as well as players like Ryan O'Marra and Geoff Paukovich who bring more size to the table, one has to wonder if his days with the Oilers are numbered.

In the meantime Spurgeon continues to play his game with the hope of wearing his hometown teams jersey oneday.
