Lowe Sure Stockpiled The Defense, Now It's Time For Tambellini To Use That Depth In Trades

Souray, Visnovsky, Gilbert, Grebeshkov, Staios, Smid

That's a pretty pricey top 6 once Grebeshkov and Smid are resigned. If the Oilers have any notions of landing Bouwmeester or improving the forward group, they should be looking at moving some salary from the blueline. Here's what I'd be looking to do come the draft.....

To Florida: Denis Grebeshkov, Robert Nilsson, 2nd and 4th round pick
To Edmonton: Nathan Horton, the negotiating rights to Jay Bouwmeester

To Atlanta: Andrew Cogliano, Tom Gilbert, Marc Pouliot, Gilbert Brule, Taylor Chorney, 10th overall pick, and a conditional '11 1st round pick (if Kovalchuk resigns in Edmonton)
To Edmonton: Ilya Kovalchuk, 4th overall pick

To Buffalo: Steve Staios, 3rd round pick
To Edmonton: 2nd round pick

Kovalchuk-Horton-Hemsky
Penner-Horcoff-Kotalik
Schremp-Gagner-O'Sullivan
Jacques-Brodziak-Stortini
MacIntyre, Potulny

Bouwmeester-Visnovsky
Souray-Smid
Peckham-UFA
Strudwick

I won't say I'd go for these particular deals, but you have the right idea -- the acquisition of elite players is the key.
