If the Pens Fall Again In the Finals, Perhaps the Oilers Would Be a Good Trading Partner?

The Pens could use more secondary offense and/or an upgrade on defense. The Oilers are looking at getting bigger in the top 6, and there could be the makings of good trade partners.

Jordan Staal is bringing in a hefty salary and while he is a solid player, Pittsburgh already has their 2 franchise players and they badly need a supporting cast. Let's look at a few different scenarios.....

Scenario #1-Jordan Staal and Pittsburgh's 1st round pick (#29/#30) for
Robert Nilsson, Denis Grebeshkov, Marc Pouliot, and Kyle Brodziak

The Oilers get rid of some salary, get bigger up front, and also stockpile another 1st rounder for this years draft. Pouliot could even be a stop gap on Sid's line as they played together in Jr. and Pouliot could actually pot some goals being the trigger man on his line for a change. Brodziak is a very poor mans Staal, Nilsson adds another skilled puck carrier that Pitt sorely needs, and Grebs adds another puck moving dman that they could also use.

Pitt gets a number of younger role players and a solid top 4 dman and all 3 forwards are players that the Pens organization is familiar with as they were in WBS in '06-07. Individually these players may not seem like much, but all of them can fit into specific roles on the Pens.

Scenario #2-Jordan Staal and Pittsburgh's 1st rounder for
Sheldon Souray, Marc Pouliot, and Robert Nilsson

The Pens add a big time blueliner, a PP weapon, and add another big body on the blueline and 2 role playing forwards.

Scenario #3-Jordan Staal for
Denis Grebeshkov or Ladislav Smid and Robert Nilsson

Oilers get their coveted big center and Pitt gets 2 solid players that could help their team in terms of puck carrying to lessen the load on Malkin and Crosby.
